A young French woman, later to be known as Mother Anne de Xainctonge became deeply aware of the lack of educational opportunities for the girls of her time and was inspired to open schools.On 29 th November 1596 , Mother Anne left her native town, Dijion, France, inspite of all resistance from her family to start the Society of St. Ursula.
